『ESL Quake Live 1on1 Japan Cup』実況担当 BRZRK インタビュー

11月 7～ 8日に開催される Quake Liveの1vs1オンライン大会『ESL Quake Live 1on1 Japan Cup』の実況を担当する BRZRK 氏へのインタビューです。

BRZRK 氏から始まり、何名かの注目選手にインタビューを行なっていくとのことでした。
ESLのtechnics氏が行なったインタビューを日本語と英語で掲載します。

ESL.technics: Hello BRZRK。あなたをまだ知らない人がいるかもしれないので、自己紹介をおねがいします
BRZRK: BRZRK です。BRZRK は Berzerk を意味しています。2X 歳で東京に住んでいますよ。

ESL.technics: どのようにしてゲーミングや eスポーツの世界に足を踏み入れたか、BRZRK というニックネームの由来などについて教えてもらえますか?
BRZRK: 兄貴が 1997 年に Quake1 の存在を教えてくれて、以来、多くの空き時間をプレーに費やしました。
オンラインゲームをプレーすることはかなり衝撃的で、ハードコアな PC ゲーマーになるのは難しくありませんでした。
しかし、最近では(競技として)真剣にプレーすることは諦めてしまいました。
初めて参加した eスポーツイベントは、友人達と参加した 2000 年の QuakeCon です。
ニックネームの由来については良く覚えていないのですが、バーサーカーのように他のプレーヤー達を倒したかったんじゃないかな。

ESL.technics: あなたは大きな成果を上げたことで日本のゲーミングコミュニティではかなりの有名人です。そのキャリアにおいて、最も衝撃的だったことはなんでしょうか?
BRZRK: テレビで僕の事を見て FPS を知ったというプレーヤーがいるということですね。日本では FPS はメジャーではないので、それを聞いた時は本当にうれしかったですよ。

ESL.technics: カムバックについて考えていますか?再びマウスを手に取って日本や世界の強豪たちと戦うのに必要なことは何でしょうか?
BRZRK: 今は仕事があり、自由な時間を作るのがとても難しくなってしまいました:(
もし僕がカムバックして真剣にプレーするのであれば、仕事を辞めなくてはならないでしょう。そうするのはあまりにも難しいですね。

ESL.technics: Quake シリーズやデュエルタイプのゲームが好きな理由は?
BRZRK: 他のプレーヤーを倒すことは楽しいですし、デュエルは勝者と敗者なるか、それが全てですからね。

ESL.technics: Quake Live が再び eスポーツのリーディングゲームとして成功するのに必要なことはなんだと思いますか?
BRZRK: Quake Live にはより多くのプレーヤーとコミュニティの成長が必要でしょう。そうなれば、多くの支持者が簡単に増えるようになると思います。

ESL.technics: 日本の eスポーツの現状についてどう思うか、そして将来的にどのようになるかをおしえて下さい。日本の eスポーツの輝かしい未来を守るために変える必要があることはなんでしょうか?
BRZRK: いい質問ですね!現状、多くの人は eスポーツのことを知らないので eスポーツが日本で成功するのは難しいでしょう。マスメディアがゲームプレーヤーを批判するからだと思います。

ESL.technics: ESL Japan Cup の話に移りましょう。あなたは試合の実況を行います。実況を楽しみにしている試合は何でしょうか?
BRZRK: uNleashed 選手の試合を特に楽しみにしていますよ。
彼は日本でかなり有名なプレーヤーですからね。

ESL.technics: トーナメントで誰が優勝すると予想しますか?観客を驚かせるようなプレーヤーは?
BRZRK: それはまだ予想できないですね。
全参加選手がベストなパフォーマンスをしてくれることに期待していますよ 🙂

ESL.technics: BRZRK 軍曹は QuakeLive や eスポーツについて私たちを指導するために ESL Japan Cup にいらっしゃるでしょうか?
BRZRK: BRZRK 軍曹は登場すると思いますよ 🙂

Interview with ESL QuakeLive 1on1 JapanCup’s shoutcaster BRZRK

ESL has interviewed BRZRK who is the shoutcaster for the ESL QuakeLive 1on1 JapanCup. This event will be held online on November 7th and will see the top 32 of Japan compete.

ESL.technics: Hello BRZRK could you please introduce yourself to the people that might not know you yet?
BRZRK: My name is BRZRK, which means Berzerk, I am 2X years old and live in Tokyo.

ESL.technics: Could you tell us a little bit about how you got in to gaming and esports and how it is that you got the nickname BRZRK?
BRZRK: I was introduced to Quake 1 back in 1997 by my brother and it took up a lot of my free time. Playing online games made a huge impact on me and it was not hard to become a hardcore PC gamer, but these days I have given up on playing seriously.
My first e-sports event was in the year 2000 when I went to Quakecon with some of my friends.
(how it is that you got the nickname BRZRK?) Hmmm I can’t remember exactly, maybe I just want to frag another player like a berzerker 🙂

ESL.technics: You are quite famous in japanese gaming for your great accomplishments. What is the thing that has made the most impact on you, during your gaming career?
BRZRK: Some player watched me on TV and got to learn about this type of games for the first time because of that. Even though FPS is still not major in Japan, I was really glad to hear that.

ESL.technics: Are you considering a comeback? What would it take for you to pick up your mouse again and compete with the best in japan or even the world?
BRZRK: I have a job now and with this job it is very difficult to make any free time 🙁
If I’d want to come back and play seriously, I would have to quit my job. Which is too hard to do.

ESL.technics: What is it that you love about the Quake series and what does the duel gametype mean to you?
BRZRK: Fragging another player is pleasant for me and with duel there can only be one winner and loser, that’s all.

ESL.technics: What do you think needs to be changed in QuakeLive to make the game as a success and once again the leading esports game?
BRZRK: QuakeLive needs more players and the community needs to grow. If that happens there could easily be a lot of supporters.

ESL.technics: Could you tell us what you think about the current state of japanese esports and how you see it move in to the future? What needs to change to secure a bright future for japanese esports?
BRZRK: Good question! It is difficult to succeed in Japan now, because a lot of people don’t know about e-sports. I think it is because mass media criticizes the gamers.

ESL.technics: So moving on to the ESL Japan Cup, you will be doing the shoutcasting for the Live feed of the matches. What is the matchup you look most forward to casting? Why this specific matchup?
BRZRK: I am particularly looking forward to seeing uNleashed play since he is quite a famous player in Japan.

ESL.technics: Who do you see winning this tournament and who is going to surprise us?
BRZRK: I can’t predict it yet, but I hope all the players will give their best and perform well 🙂

ESL.technics: Will BRZRK gunso be making a comeback in the ESL Japan Cup to teach us more about QuakeLive and esports in general?
BRZRK: We will see 🙂
